My son came out of the bathroom and my brother said âdid you wash your hands?â.
âYesâ my son said back, looking sheepish.
âGood, then lick your handsâ my brother said to him.
âNOâ my son said back.
My brother laughed and told him to go back and wash his hands.
It was a funny interaction that stuck with me. How many times in life do we fake something or do something poorly? How often do we just keep moving on unless we are called out on it? The interaction became something larger for me. I would ask myself âwould you lick your handsâ when doing things and moving through activities. It became a great gauge to ask myself how ârealâ I was being with myself. Eventually, my answer was âfuck yes I would lick my handsâ to everything that I was doing. So, ask yourself, would you lick your hands? Ask yourself this about everything in your life and if you canât answer âfuck yes, I would lick my hands right nowâ then start rewashing your hands until you want to lick them.
