I planted this tree almost 2 years ago. I have a vivid memory of the day I planted it. I remember complaining that I wished it had been planted earlier. I use the word complaining and I mean it. I’m not proud of the fact that I was complaining, but that’s absolutely what I was doing. I was feeling bad for myself that it would take years and years for the tree to grow to a mature age and size. I found myself in a victim position because something that I wanted and loved the idea of so deeply would take time and energy.
There is a saying “The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time to plant a tree is today”.
The reality is that you can’t change the past, but you sure can have an impact on your present situation. I planted the tree. I loved the tree. I watered the tree. I fertilized the tree. The tree did exactly what it promised to do, it thrived, it grew, it offered knowledge and support.
Each time I have a Spiritual Coaching client who tells me they wish they had opened to their gifts earlier, I think of my tree. We can not control that we weren't open to our spiritual gifts earlier, but we sure can embrace and love them now that we are aware of them. My truth, which does not have to be yours, is that everyone has spiritual gifts and they open to their gifts when they are divinely ready to embrace them. Having said that, each time I have this conversation with a client I put myself solidly in my memory of planting the tree and complaining that it wasn’t planted 20 years ago, which would be ridiculous because I didn’t even live here and likely it wouldn’t have been planted in the exact place that I wanted it. That specific tree was meant to be planted by me, in the exact spot that I planted it, at the exact time that I planted it, I know that.
If you find yourself starting out on your spiritual awakening journey and feeling sad that you didn’t open to these beautiful gifts earlier in this human experience, just pause and realize that you can’t control that. You are exactly where you are meant to be right now. Offer yourself love, nourishment, knowledge and support and I bet you will grow just like my tree.
