I don’t paint them for anyone but me. No one ever looks at my toenails and comments about how amazing they are. I never seek external validation from others about my toenails, never once. I have never asked anyone “do you think my toenails look good”. I literally only paint them for myself.
I use painting my toenails as an easy cue on when I need to check my self care program. You see, sometimes life gets busy and my schedule gets too full. It is in these moments that I let go of my self care program. My toenails serve as a quick and easy visual reminder for me. When I am following my self care program and taking time for myself I take 5 minutes once every 2 weeks to paint my toenails. When I notice that my toenails are not being kept up and I can’t seem to fit the 5 minutes into my schedule, then it is a simple visual reminder for me that I need to adjust some things in my life. If I can’t make the 5 minutes in my schedule then I am definitely letting other parts of my self care program go also.
Do you have a simply visual cue in your world that you use as feedback on your self care?
