Crossing midline

On my run that day,  it quickly became obvious to me that my technique was all over the place. My right hand crossed the midline of my body with every arm pump. It was a lateral motion rather than a motion that moved me forward. Being a physical therapist I knew enough to know that this was weakness in my core.I also knew that I didn’t cross midline with my hand yesterday so while it was weakness, it was likely fatigue and a warning sign that I needed to focus on some core strengthening.

Everything in life is a message, in my opinion.  I ran and thought about my arm swing, my core weakness and crossing midline. It was such a strong message for me. When you are weak, you don’t stay in your lane. You don’t push yourself forward, you move laterally.

It was simple really. It was also a much needed message. I had been caught up in a couple of situations and allowing them to take up head space when they really shouldn’t have. These situations were sucking energy from me, but only because I gave them permission. I was allowing a couple of people to complain to me and finding myself pulled down by their volume of complaining. I wasn’t in my lane, none of that was my business. With that, I promised to focus on my core and stop crossing midline, moving laterally in life rather than a clear path forward.
