I was walking the driveway, as a cool down, on the way back from a run and saw her. I am confident I walked past her all spring without noticing her. It wasn’t that she wasn’t there. It wasn’t that she wasn’t beautiful. I just hadn’t seen her. I stopped walking and took a moment to appreciate her. I had worked hard over the past 3 years to get plants, trees, berries, bushes, fruit, veggies and food growing on my property. Anything that supported my diet, my spirituality or my land (the energy of the land including the animals whom I share this land with) had been a priority. I had not planted her. As I finished walking the length of the driveway I thought about her.

She likely came from a mother across the road. The elderberry seeds had flowed, floated, and spread over to my property. I thought about how beneficial she was to my land and my property. I thought about what a gift she was and felt grateful that she wanted to be a part of my reality.

As I sipped water and cooled down from the run I realized that the elderberry bush was much like spirituality. As one person opens to their gifts and embraces their journey they spread spirituality seeds to those around them. Before you know it, the neighbor has a spirituality bush growing in their backyard. Well, I guess that it doesn’t exactly work like that, but you get the idea of where my mindset was going. So, for all of you out there spraying spirituality seeds like the mama elderberry bush….. You are amazing, keep doing your thing and know that somewhere someone is feeling grateful for the spirituality bush growing on their property.
